Water softeners in Mesilla

Softener and drinking-water help for the historic town on the southwest edge of Las Cruces.

Mesilla is a small town of 1,797 people at the 2020 census, bordered by Las Cruces to the northeast. It joined the United States with the 1853 Gadsden Purchase, and La Mesilla Historic District, which includes the plaza, was named a National Historic Landmark in 1961. Many homes near the plaza are decades old, some of them traditional adobe, and newer houses spread out toward the farm fields.

Is Mesilla on Las Cruces water?

No. The Town of Mesilla runs its own water system. Its 2022 drinking water report says the water comes from two deep groundwater wells in the Lower Rio Grande Basin, with arsenic at 1 part per billion against a federal limit of 10. The report doesn't list hardness, so a test at your tap is the way to size a softener.

Older houses take more planning

Thick walls, flat roofs and plumbing that's been added to over the decades mean there often isn't a ready-made softener loop. The installer may need to tie into the main line where it enters the house and find a drain for the regeneration water. If your home is in the historic district, ask the town whether any visible exterior work needs review.

Typical requests in Mesilla

  • First softeners in older homes
  • RO drinking taps
  • Filtration for homes on private wells outside the town system
